WHAT IS IT?
Clutch Swimbait Co. The Boss
WHAT SETS IT APART?
Measuring 9 3/4 inches and weighing 4.1 ounces, The Boss is designed to create a wide, slow glide to attract attention, while a quick aggressive snap typically convinces followers. The bait’s 3D eyes, and realistic brush fiber tail add authenticity, while rotating hook hangers keep hardware in the proper position. Noting that The Boss has gained popularity for forward-facing sonar applications, Clutch owner, Josh Pladies suggests adding lead wire to the front and back hook hangers to create a natural “working down” action for deeper scenarios.
HOW DO I USE IT?
Regarded as the monster-hunting bait in the Clutch Swimbait Co line up, The Boss sports a slim profile and specific head/chin angles, which create the aqua-dynamics necessary for the kind of glidebait motion that triggers giant bites. A revered name among tournament types, The Boss has made numerous appearances in Bassmaster Elite competiton, most recently during Brandon Palaniuk’s commanding victory in the Bassmaster Elite at Lake Okeechobee, as well as JT Thompkins’ second-place finish at the 2024 Bassmaster Elite at the Harris Chain of Lakes.

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:
If it’s not right, it’s wrong. That thought drove Pladies to work through 32 different molds during the bait’s prototyping stages. Tweaking the bait by the millimeter to achieve his exact specifications, Pladies utilized drones to observe exactly how fish hit the bait. Analyzing many hours of footage yielded a deeper understanding of giant bass feeding. This insight provided direction for hook hanger locations and hook sizes for the goal of maximizing hook up ratio and making the most of every big bite.
