Gear Review: AFTCO Adapt Tactical Phase Change Shirt

WHAT IS IT?

AFTCO Adapt Tactical Phase Change Performance Shirt

WHAT SETS IT APART?

Astronauts use Phase Change Materials to reduce overheating and prevent chills under extreme conditions. Like having a built-in thermostat, OPTIMER ADAPT technology reuses, restores and recycles the body’s thermal energy to enhance comfort. Anglers are benefactors of the technology in the Adapt Tactical Phase Change Performance Shirt. Sizes: S-3X. Available in colors Airy Blue Heather, Jade Shoreline Camo, Light Gray Digi Camo, Blue Upwell Camo.

HOW DO I USE IT?

AFTCO’s SpeedVent hood that is a mainstay feature of its rain jackets is integrated into Adapt Tactical Phase Change. The hood provides an articulated, ergonomic fit that allows wind to dissipate through the rear of the shirt. That means the hood stays in place during boat runs, and you have thumb holes to keep the sleeves around the wrists. The integrated ergonomic face mask provides more sun and wind protection, and it’s vented to prevent fogging when wearing sunglasses. Mesh ventilation on the sides adds to the cooling properties, and you get UPF 50 sun protection.

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

I recently tested the newest iteration of Adapt Tactical Phase Change during our tournaments in sunny, warm Florida. It was ideal for wearing from early morning into the full heat of the day. The intuitive technology seemingly knows when to kick in during early morning boat runs when temperatures are a tad too warm for layering up with a hoody. As the day heats up the shirt adapts to the warmer weather. The SpeedVent hood completes the shirt as my top choice for full sun protection and comfort in warm and cool temperatures.
