Gear Review: 13 Fishing Muse Black II

WHAT IS IT?

13 Fishing Muse Black II

WHAT SETS IT APART?

The 13 Fishing Muse Black II baitcasting lineup comes in lengths of 6-8 to 8-0. Powers range from medium to extra-heavy with moderate to extra-fast action. The spinning rods are available in 6-9 to 7-6, with medium-light to medium-Mag powers, all with fast actions. Each rod includes the unique Evolve Snaggle Tooth Hook Keeper, which helps anglers manage their baits between uses.

HOW DO I USE IT?

Seeking to satisfy the expectations of the angler who demands top-notch equipment, 13 Fishing sought the real-world insight of hammers like Chris Zaldain, Gerald Swindle and reigning Progressive Bassmaster Angler of the Year Kyle Welcher, for a refresh of the rod released in 2016. Collecting thoughts, suggestions and on-the-water impressions, 13 Fishing introduced a sleek lineup of rods made with Japanese PVG40T Blank Construction, taper designed with Zonal Action Technology (ZAT2) and fitted with premium Japanese EVA split grip handles. The 40-ton Japanese Toray graphite blanks carry Fuji K Frame guides with alconiteinserts.

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

As 13 Fishing notes in its Muse Black II promotional video, the word “muse” means: to become absorbed in thought; to think about something carefully and thoroughly. The company seems to have put a significant amount of thought into this new lineup, which covers everything from small drop shots to giant swimbaits. Across the board, 13 Fishing has worked to create a family of incredibly lightweight rods that stand up to the kind of fish they were made to target.
