Hite has three

It's 9 a.m. and photographer Darren Jacobson and I just saw our first fish-catch. It was
Brett Hite's third fish of the day. He's got between 6 and 7 pounds.

The reason we haven't seen many fish caught is because we haven't seen many fishermen. This is a big lake – 43,100 acres – and we haven't seen a concentration of anglers. In fact, during the long run from Table Rock State Park to a few miles up the James River, we've seen just four pros – Kelly Jordon, Brandon Palaniuk, Keith Combs and Hite.

This lake can swallow a 108-boat tournament field.
