Hackney leaves his hot spot

Greg Hackney has just made a short move north from where he started and caught three 4-pounders this morning.  He mentioned at Friday’s weigh-in how carefully he's tried to manage his fish this week.  A four-day event, like this one, is more like a marathon than a sprint.  Hackney has some places where he's confident he can catch 3-pounders.

Right now, the goal continue to be 20-pounds a day.  Hackney still believes that's what it's going to take to win this tournament.

"But you never know.  Three-pounders might be important as this thing goes on," he said.

Hackney has been careful not to burn his 3-pounders this week.  And he mentioned finding another spot where he caught a 4-pounder yesterday.  I don't know if this is it, but you can be sure at this point that there's some solid reasoning behind every move Hackney is making.

With Gerald Swindle missing the cut yesterday, Hackney is now the only angler to earn a check at every Elite Series event this season.  Hackney also won a major FLW championship this year.

When asked prior to Wednesday's anglers' meeting if this was the best season of his career, Hackney said, "No.”  Then he paused for a moment and smiled before adding, "But it could be."
