Weidler’s confidence factor

“I’ve fished here now for 15 years. It’s my favorite lake. I expect good things to happen this week.”

Yesterday Bill Weidler smiled when seeing myself and Andy Crawford approaching him at the ramp to do Dock Talk content.

Without having to say anything, he said, “I’ve fished this lake steady for 15 years now and I just love it.”

Weidler’s wife, Darlene, challenged him to avoid fishing history, and suggested he fish entirely differently, find new water, during practice.

“I tried it and it didn’t work, went back and fished history, and started catching three pounders,” he said.

“The fish are transitioning from deep to shallow water,” he continued. “This cool weather is getting the bait active, so moving baits are producing, and they are moving up into the grass so there will be a punch bite going on.”

So far so good. Weidler, from Helena, Ala., is 7th in the BASSTrakk standings with 10 pounds, 14 ounces.
