Patrick Walters, the 24-year-old former University of South Carolina college fishing phenom, prides himself on being a versatile angler. He practiced some in the deep, clear water at Table Rock.
“I can catch some small fish in that,” he said. “But we’re going to burn some gas. I’m going to make as far a run as I can, and I’m going to going to get as shallow as I can until I find them how I like to catch them. That’s the main thing. I like to fish to my confidence.”
BASS officials – and my no-count self – have access to the BASSTrakk map. True to his word, Walters has burned some gas this morning. As for the rest of the field, it’s about as spread out through Table Rock’s 43,100 acres as it could possibly be.
