Turtle moving fast

One indicator of who might win any particular 4-day derby becomes apparent after the Day 2 weigh in. The guys at the very top of the leaderboard are considered the favorites, but the anglers who are near the top that improved their weight from Day 1 are the dangerous dudes. Of those in the Top 5, Indiana angler Bill Lowen is the only competitor that qualifies for this designation. He weighed in 21-3 on the first day and 23-4 yesterday. As we pull up on him, he is making short pitches with a drop shot. After his third pitch, he sets the hook and lands a 1 1/2 pounder. After two more pitches, he pulls the trolling motor and zooms uplake about 300 yards and starts again. His nickname may be “Turtle,” but he is anything but slow this morning.
