The tide’s coming in

Jason Williamson, who has taken an early estimated lead in the Bass Pro Shops Elite on Winyah Bay, is working an area off the Waccamaw River.

He said tidal flow was a key to his morning bite.

“The tide’s coming in, and things get slow,” Williamson said. “I had a strong morning bite; the afternoon, not so much.”

He said his bag, estimated on Basstrakk at 12-5, includes a 5-pounder, along with a couple of 3-pounders.

That quality of bass will go a long way in this event, where ounces could be the difference in making the cut or going home early.

“It surprised me,” he said if the quality of his stringer.
