Randall Tharp caught a 5-pounder at 12:14 that makes him the first angler to top 20 pounds today, unofficially. It has moved him into second place behind Kevin VanDam. Here’s Tharp’s bag: 4-4, 4-4, 3-0, 4-6, 5-0.
Tharp was just featured on a “Bassmaster LIVE” segment in which he described the variety of baits and methods he’s caught fish on this week. It’s a little early to reveal those details here. But steeper, 45-degree banks have been the key feature he’s targeted.
In a further testament to how quickly bass are moving shallow to spawn, Tharp said, “I caught a 6-pounder here on the first day, a 6-pounder here on the second day and two really good ones here today. The ones I caught today looked like they’d just moved up.”
