This morning Steve Bowman and I are following Gerald Swindle of Warrior, Alabama. G-Man is our current leader in the Toyota Angler of the Year Race. This time of year, in the later third of the season, that position comes with a fair amount of pressure. Right behind him are five seasoned competitors: Keith Combs, Jacob Powroznik, Randal Tharp, and Greg Hackney.
Swindle told us yesterday he did not have a good practice. In a full day of fishing he had just one solid keeper. Putting myself in his shoes, I’d be a wreck. We’ll find out soon if G-Man begins to spin out. So far today, in the first hour, he’s stayed in the same spot, fishing slow and steady. This AOY race is shaping up to be a hot one.
