Swindle lands big bass of the day

Gerald Swindle thought for a second it was a walleye he’d hooked on a shaky head worm, then he said, “No, it’s a giant spot. I mean a giant spot.”

When Swindle got the fish in the boat, it wasn’t exactly a giant – 3 pounds, 5 ounces – but it is today. It’s by far the biggest fish caught by any of the 12 anglers competing today. The previous best was a 2-7 caught by Swindle’s opponent Mike McClelland.

“I thought it was bigger,” said Swindle. “That sucker was long and pretty in the water.”

Swindle’s three-bass total matches Fred Roumbanis’s top total from the morning session of 6-13. It gives Swindle a 4-pound, 6-ounce lead over McClelland.
