Spooning with Zaldain

You can always count on Chris Zaldain to use big bass baits. From an 8-inch Megabass Magdraft Swimbait, to a giant structure spoon, Zaldain always swings for the fences. It’s paying off now, with a BassTrakk score of 14 pounds, 12 ounces, for a total of 35-7, for 4th place.

Zaldain is swinging an 8-inch, 2.5-ounce Daiwa flutter spoon, which he’s used over the past few seasons. This photo was taken earlier this season at Lake Guntersville, where the spoon helped him to a 5th-place finish.

The spoon is just the trick for bass feeding on 6-inch alewives. Diving birds give away the location of the feeding activity. Zaldain tosses the spoon into the school to get hooked up. When the fish disappear, he switches to a Lazer TroKar Tungsten Pro-V Finesse Jig Head.
