Skeet Reese needs to have a good tournament this week. He enters 30th in AOY points, too close for comfort to that Top 35 cutoff for automatic Classic berths. After what he saw in practice, he planned to target both spotted bass and largemouths today.
“I’m going to start deep and hopefully catch a limit of spots, then go chase largemouth,” Reese said Wednesday.
He has good reason to spend time chasing largemouths. Reese caught a 6-pounder in practice.
“If you go up shallow, you can see plenty of fish,” he said. “Getting a bite, now that’s another story. The consistent bite will probably be the deep bite, chasing spotted bass. But you can go out there and chase those spots all day and catch six pounds, or you might catch 15 pounds. You don’t know what you’re going to catch.”
