Schultz, Johnstons still 1-2-3

Second verse same as the first at the St. Lawrence River. After Day 2, Bernie Schultz still leads by less than two pounds, just like on Day 1. His two-day total is 47 pounds, 14 ounces. Chris Johnston (46-5) is still in second place, but his brother Cory dropped out of a tie for second. He’s third with 45-9.

“You’ve got to get past the Johnstons. Everybody knows that,” said Schultz. “Those two know this river better than anybody, and (Lake Ontario) even better.”

The totals for the first two days of this tournament almost matched, as well. The field of 94 anglers weighed-in 460 bass on Day 1 and 456 on Day 2; 89 five-bass limits were brought to the scales both days; there were 15 bags of 20 pounds or more on Day 1 and 14 on Day 2. But it’s not easy for anybody.

“I had to go catch two fish today that I wanted to save,” said Cory Johnston. “But you save them for times that you need them, and today I needed them.”

Finally there’s this: Seth Feider was officially crowned as the Bassmaster Elite Series Angler of the Year. But there’s no let-up in him. Feider said any kind of celebratory party will be put off to another day. He’s in eighth place, 5-11 behind Schultz. And Feider would like add one more Championship Sunday top 10 to his AOY resume this season.
