Brandon Palaniuk is following the prevailing strategy for dialing into smallmouth bass on Mille Lacs. That means running GPS waypoints. Making a stop, lining up over a given rockpile and dropping a bait on the nose of the fish.
“I haven’t yet run one half of my waypoints,” he said on Bassmaster LIVE. “I’ll be waypoint hopping for the rest of the day.”
Palaniuk was unfazed upon arriving at a stop and finding Jason Christie. Both are contending for the title of Toyota Bassmaster Angler of the Year.
“The spot was his and it wouldn’t have been right to move in on there,” he added. “But it’ll be interesting to see what he catches from the spot.”
Yesterday Palaniuk told me that maintaining the status quo by catching 4 pounders will keep him in contention for the title. Unofficially, and as of this hour, Palaniuk has a nine-point lead over Christie.
