Palaniuk junk fishing, moving often

One theory about successfully fishing Santee Cooper is that you’ve got to pick an area and stick with it, pick it apart. There are so many good-looking areas in this 170,000 acres of water that you can waste a lot of time running around.

So what has Brandon Palaniuk done to catch almost 19 pounds this morning? Run around, casting a variety of lures at anything that looks good.

“Today has been the epitome of junk fishing,” Palaniuk said on “Bassmaster LIVE.” “I’ve been all over the lake, burning gas. Whatever looks good, I fish it.”

He caught a 6-pounder punching a jig and a 4-pounder on a jerkbait. Palaniuk thinks this warming trend has bass on the move, so he’s moving too.

“They’re moving a lot,” he said. “That’s why I haven’t been getting locked into one thing.”
