Open starts with a bang…of sorts

This derby is getting ready to start. Typically these things start out and build to a crescendo as the week wears on.

This Open Championship kind of starts with a bang of sorts. Or at least we expect it to.

Bobby Lane and Brandon Lester could start the fireworks early. At least three anglers will be watching from afar to see what happens.

For instance the moment Lane catches his first keeper, Keith Poche will get into the upcoming Bassmaster Classic.

That will also make Lane double qualified for the Classic, which will open up another spot in the Classic bracket. The winner of that will be Mike McClelland.

And Lester. His first fish puts him in the Classic and opens a spot on the Classic Bracket for Ray Hanselman. There are not many derbies where winners come in the opening minutes. Count this as one of them.
