No wind, no friend

During practice the wind was everyone’s friend. The breezy conditions stimulated the bite, which is always good on Lake Hartwell. Get the blueback herring moving and the spotted bass bite turns on.

This morning there is no wind. Shane Durrance is shooting a gallery of Jason Christie, who’s got 3 bass in the livewell for about 8 pounds.

“You can get 15 bites but only catch one of them,” he told Shane.

Obviously, just a bit of wind can make a difference for his topwater bite. And that is a key strategy in play this week. The reason why? The fall transition has moved the blueback herring up higher in the water column, and the spotted bass are following them. When things line up, that equates to schooling action that can result in a good day of fishing.
