No casts for Feider

Seth Feider’s goal this week is the same as last year here on Mille Lacs. That is qualifying for the GEICO Bassmaster Classic presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods. He missed it even after winning the Toyota Bassmaster Angler of the Year Championship.

Feider is in a better place this time. He’s 15th in the AOY standings and in good shape for making the Classic cut.

BASSTrakk now shows Feider with a limit weighing 16 pounds, 8 ounces, that came after a couple of mechanical miscues early today.

“I don’t plan to make a cast all week.”

That’s what he just said to photographer Garrick Dixon, who is on the water now shooting a photo gallery of Feider.

What that means is Feider will once again be “video game fishing.” It’s a cliche that describes the skill of fishing vertically over specific bottom targets and for specific fish spotted on the screen of today’s three-dimensional electronics. Last year, Feider played the game to first place. He might be down the standings but all it takes is a flurry of 5-pounders to get back in contention for a repeat win.
