Bryan New’s 15-pound, 15-ounce limit has him atop the unofficial BassTrakk leaderboard. It’s not unfamiliar territory for the 31-year-old Elite Series rookie from Belmont, N.C., but it’s been awhile. First place was where New finished on the St. Johns River in mid-February in the first Elite Series tournament of the year. Since then he’s finished as follows: 44th at the Tennessee River, 19th at Pickwick Lake, 79th at the Sabine River and 85th at Lake Fork. New entered this event 42nd in the Angler of the Year standings and 6th in the Rookie of the Year standings.
