New season’s launch, dictated by Mother Nature

For the second consecutive year, the Bassmaster Elite Series has the launch of the new season dictated by Mother Nature, this time with a thick fog.

The start of a new season brings so much anticipation…new Elite Series pros launching for their first event, veteran anglers who, to them, this is just another day, and some new old faces in guys like Greg Hackney and Jason Christie.

Elite Series veteran, Rick Morris, and I are spending the fog delay getting to know one another through a variety of conversations. Among the topics covered so far have been the absence of grass that was once very prevalent in these parts, protecting our resources, family and how to make a breakfast wrap in your hotel room.

One thing’s for sure, once we get going, we’ll need to figure it out quickly. Said Morris, “This fog delay is going to really hurt the guys that were relying on making a long run to catch their fish.”

As for Morris, he’s got nine rods on the deck and the veteran of nearly 300 Bassmaster events will rely on his instincts to get the 2021 season started.
