New doubles up on Day 2

Bryan New started the day in 85th place after catching only one 2-pound, 1-ounce bass yesterday. He caught twice as many fish on one cast today, as you can see in the photo above. New might have had an excuse for a poor finish here, since he was coming off a victory in his first ever Elite Series tournament. The Belmont, N.C., rookie blew away the field on Day 4 at the St. Johns River two weeks ago, rallying from sixth place on the final day with a limit weighing 26 pounds, 4 ounces.

He’ll be quite happy with something considerably less today. New has a limit weighing 11-13, which appears to be enough to make today’s top 50 cut.
