Menendez hitting a lull

After a solid start on Day 1 with 16 pounds, 2 ounces, Mark Menendez backed it up with a solid limit early on Day 2. Menendez has been stuck with roughly 12 pounds for a few hours.

One big bite is all he needs to get back to what he had yesterday or even better. Menendez is methodically working hard cover at the bottom of Lake Crescent with a Texas Rig.

“I’ve just learned that you’ve got to slow down,” said Menendez when asked why he vibes so well with the St. Johns. “Slowing down just comes with age.”

Menendez has all the water he could ask for to himself, which is allowing him to stick with this game plan. Getting bites has not been an issue for the Kentucky pro, but getting the fish in the boat has been a struggle.

“They get in a funk this time of year — they’ll pick the bait up and run four feet away with it and never have it’” said Menendez.

Menendez knows that he is safe to be fishing tomorrow, but has to get a big bite to stay in contention heading into the weekend.
