Taylor Mazur of St. Cloud State University is no stranger to fishing for smallmouth and it’s showing early on Day 1 of the Carhartt Bassmaster College National Championship presented by Bass Pro Shops. The Minnesota native is fishing solo this week and already has roughly 16 pounds in the boat with room to upgrade given that his smallest fish is under two pounds.
Mazur is making long drifts on the main river fishing a technique that is very similar to how Jeff Gustafson won the Elite event on the Tennessee River. The technique of “moping” as Gussy calls it.
