Brandon Lester has done himself a world of good this week. He entered this regular season finale in 66th place with 365 points in Toyota Angler of the Year standings. Based on the Day 3 results, Lester has moved up to 51st.
But even if Lester wins this tournament, he won’t qualify for the Toyota Top 50 AOY Championship. Based on the Day 3 standings, Lester’s 4th place ranking would earn him 107 AOY points and give him 472 points for the year.
There’s a four-angler logjam, separated by the tiebreaker, above him at 479 points. If Lester won and earned the maximum 110 points when they become official after today, he’d have only 475.
But Lester can take comfort in the fact that his Bassmaster Classic chances are still alive. With a 51st place AOY finish, he’ll qualify for the Classic Bracket event in October where three Classic berths will be awarded.
