KVD’s switch up

Kevin VanDam didn’t seem too optimistic about his chances to repeat his Thursday catch weighing 21 pounds, 15 ounces. At least for now it looks like KVD underestimated himself, while everyone else knows better.

“What I’m doing isn’t conducive to where the weather forecast is going. I prefer the wind blowing and clouds hiding the sun,” he said on Thursday.

KVD gets neither according to today’s forecast. It calls for sunny skies and a high of 70 with light winds.

“I don’t like to sight fish and those fish are spawning right now, way behind schedule,” he continued. “The prespawn bite I was targeting is going away for sure as the fish move up to spawn.”

I tried to practice for the future, but that’s really hard when the conditions are going to change every day,” he added.

He wrapped the interview with his mind already churning about what to do next. Rapid firing a signature Strike King jerkbait might have worked early this morning, but it looks like the switch to a spinnerbait and square bill crankbait is in play. So is a Strike King Hack Attack Cover Swim Jig, which he is deftly pitching and casting around the corners of boat docks.
