Ish has a two-pronged approach

Ish Monroe has been exploiting a “best of both worlds” pair of patterns since 10 a.m. today, and it has allowed him to get within ounces of Jacob Powroznik. Monroe is alternating between flipping some shallow reeds with a jig for largemouth, then moving a short distance to throw a swimbait in deeper water for smallmouth.

His last fish was hung up in the reeds for several minutes before Monroe finally worked it free. It was a 2-5, which allowed him to cull a 1-13. That 2-5 is now the smallest fish on his scorecard. He’s got 14-8 to Powroznik’s 14-15.
