Hite right back in contention

Brett Hite knows how quickly your fortunes can change on Grand Lake. He was in 70th place after Day 1, but vaulted to 14th with a 21-15 bag on Day 2. Hite just jumped back into contention today with a 6-2 at 12:30. That gives him 17-14 for the day with a lot of room in his livewell to move up. His other four keepers weigh 2-8, 3-0, 3-2 and 3-2.

“There’s a definite pattern to where these fish are,” Hite said yesterday. “This is a pattern lake. I found the pattern on the first day of practice, and I’ve been duplicating it. All five of those big ones (Friday) came off one big stretch of bank.”

With so many of the 108 anglers running similar shallow water patterns, Hite was looking forward to today when the field was cut to the Top 50.

“It always helps to have less people out there,” said Hite, while noting there would be more recreational anglers on the water this weekend. “When you can take 58 of the best fishermen in the world off the water, whether it was their week or not, it’s always good.”
