The day before this tournament began, Drew Benton said he was as confused as he’d ever been on a Florida body of water at this time of year. Benton has since gotten a clue. And apparently so have the other nine finalists in the SiteOne Bassmaster Elite at the Harris Chain. Six of the top 10 who qualified for Sunday’s final caught 20-pound bags Saturday. Those bags included an 11-pounder by John Cox and a 9-13 by Clifford Pirch.
Benton’s progress this week has gone as follows: 47th on Day 1 with 13-11, 23rd on Day 2 with 19-1, and 8th on Day 3 with 21-5. Only 5 pounds, 4 ounces separates first and 10th place. So what’s going to happen Sunday?
“Somebody is going to catch a 30-pound bag and win the tournament,” Benton said. “And it’s going to be sight-fishing.”
