The Hack is back

Click on the AOY tab in the new BassTrakk and you will see a familiar name at the top. That name is Greg Hackney.

Hackney currently leads the Bassmaster Angler of the Year standings with an unofficial 195 points, gaining 96 points in this tournament so far. He’s 18 points ahead of Jeff Gustafson.

Now, it’s only the second tournament of the season, but Hackney is fishing well, and not just in the past two tournaments. Covering all of the Basspro.com Bassmaster Opens, I watched Hackney progress through the 2020 season, and by all accounts, he was humbled to have the chance to rejoin the Bassmaster Elite Series.

Yes, it’s early, but when you are relieved to be back–where you feel you belong–are having fun, fishing loose, it can only mean good things are to come.

Hackney’s excitement to be an Elite again was punctuated by the 2021 schedule. With maybe one or two exceptions, every tournament falls into his shallow-water, power fishing wheelhouse. And with that being the case, it gives him the confidence to boost his “winding” game too.

Bring it on, Hack. We’re glad you’re back.
