As proof of the theory that the fishing would get better after 11 a.m. today, Buddy Gross has caught two 6-pounders – one at 11:18 and another at 11:37. And they’ve bumped Gross to the top of the BassTrakk leaderboard with an estimated 21 pounds, 4 ounces.
In addition to the warming water and bright sunshine, the other factor contributing to success this afternoon is the fact that these guys haven’t been on Pickwick Lake the past two days. They’re essentially figuring out a new body of water during tournament hours. The practice days of Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday were literally washed away by the storms that rolled through here Wednesday. Several anglers have mentioned catching bass this morning in areas that had no water covering them during practice. The longer they have to decipher where the bass are now, the more changes you’ll see on the BassTrakk leaderboard.
