Grand Lake returns to form

Spring has finally sprung at Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees. It took so long for that to occur this year that local anglers were getting organized to address their concerns. Local tournament totals were so uncharacteristically low it seemed to some that the bass population had crashed.

Day 1 of the Academy Sports + Outdoors Bassmaster Elite should put most of those fears to bed. Eleven anglers catching 5-bass limits weighing over 20 pounds demonstrated Grand Lake is as grand as ever. All but six of the 108 anglers weighed limits, and the average bass brought to the scales on Day 1 weighed 3.15 pounds.

With sunshine predicted the rest of the week, a full moon just days away and bass shifting into spawning mode, the fun may have just begun.
