A good start for Yelas

Jay Yelas has in fairly quick order put three in the boat. But there hasn’t been much size to them. Total he has about 6 pounds with those.

He’s kind of been doing that each day. It’s not until the sun gets really up and later in the day until the bigger fish start showing up for him. All his damage yesterday was late in the day.

But he’s got a start. And he’s relatively got a huge area to himself.

This Bay Area is near where the St. Clair River spills into the lake from Lake Huron. So there’s current across these flats.

It’s somewhat like what’s out on the main lake it’s just shallower. We are in about 5-feet of water. The guys in the lake are closer to 18 and 20 feet.

There are clumps of grass and hard spots scattered around. So Yelas has an easier time setting up on targets and the current likely helps position the fish for more accurate casting.

He now has four and like the rest the last one is in the 2-pound class, which should put him around 8 pounds.

He’s covering the area with a topwater and a bladed jig.
