Gators make it, uh, exciting at Eufaula

Lake Eufaula carries a big B.A.S.S. history in it’s 46,000 acres on the Alabama-Georgia line. It bills itself as the “Big Bass Capital of the World,” backed up by 138-pound, 6-ounce winning weight over three days in the 15-bass-per-day limits of 1969 here.

Lake Eufaula might also be the big alligator capital of the world. Several veteran anglers have mentioned it already this week. Steve Kennedy couldn’t stop talking about the legendary “Gator in the Witch’s Ditch,” which he saw here several times years ago. He said everybody who saw it said the same thing: “It’s the biggest alligator I’ve ever seen.” Kennedy described its jowls as “big as basketballs.”

As you can see in the photo above, taken last night by photographer James Overstreet, and below with angler Mike Huff, Lake Eufaula’s gators are keeping close eyes on the DeWALT Bassmaster Elite this week.
