Freeman off to a slow start

Missouri angler Lance Freeman is off to a slow start on Day 1. After covering three anglers prior to Freeman, he was the first to land a fish for the camera. This is his first and only fish so far, for around two pounds.

Freeman was only able to practice one day for the Basspro.com Bassmaster Open here on Grand Lake, and he claims the early morning bite was good that day, but different conditions today have made the fish a little more lethargic. Freeman is hoping for cloud cover, which will help his topwater bite as he targets the bass that are chasing shad. He claims the sun can lock these fish down sometimes, but the shad keep moving regardless.

For the time being, Freeman is moving at a moderate pace, flipping along rocky banks, lay downs and docks.
