Austin Felix hit the noon hour with a big smile on his face and his biggest bass of the day, a 6-pound, 11-ounce largemouth that moved him up to second place today with 25-11. The 2020 Elite Series rookie of the year said, “I couldn’t be happier. I’ve got so much adrenaline flowing right now.”
Felix said his game plan today was to catch as many of the spawning bass that he’d marked in practice as possible. He caught the big bass after he moved offshore into 20-plus-feet of water, noting, “Obviously, everything seems to be working now.”
Felix has a score to settle with Lake Fork. He was in contention for the Angler of the Year title going into the final event of the season here last year, and he stumbled to a 68th-place finish. But that was the only blemish on an outstanding rookie season in which he finished 7th in the final AOY standings.
