Ehrler’s pain

Frustrating. That sums up the day thus far for Brent Ehrler.

BASSTrakk has him in eighth place with about 39 pounds. Ehrler is down from second place on the official leader board after Day 1 when he finished with 34-4.

Ehrler has easily lost enough fish today to have put him solidly in the lead. Earlier today he lost a quality fish after it shook the hook. In the last hour he’s lost two fish with a total guessed weight of 6 pounds. Do the math and it’s easy to understand why he’s so frustrated.

“You only get one shot at this fish and then they go spooky,” he said, after reeling in a swim jig.

Justin Lucas should be frustrated but he’s not. He still holds the lead and is just grateful to be there.

“I had a miserable practice and thought I’d be doing just that when the tournament began,” he said. “So I’m just lucky to be here.”

Lucas has caught lots of bass, including a smallmouth, but all are very small when compared to yesterday’s average of 2 1/2 to 3 pounders.
