Adding the latest chapter in a long list of Elite Series highlights from the St. Johns River, Bob Downey just caught 22 pounds in 20 minutes. That doesn’t include a sixth bass that he culled in the flurry.
“It’s insane!” Downey said. “There is so much life in here right now.”
Downey has been mixing several different lipless crankbaits this week. But the Storm Arashi Vibe has been his main money-maker. “This Arashi is quieter than most. I think that’s good at times. I think they hear a lot of loud baits.”
That lure produced a 7-pounder for him in his 22-0 bag on Day 1, his only bass on Day 2 – a 6-11, and everything in his 22-pound bag this morning. Downey continues to lament that Day 2 failure. He started the day in 7th place, 13-6 behind leader John Crews.
