Commute time factor

Yesterday I shot a BASSCam with Timmy Horton and asked him a specific question.

“How will tomorrow be different since you’ll have to add commute time into the day?”

Commute time? On a lake? Yep. You and I must plan what time to wake up and how long it takes to get to work on time. The pros must do the same thing, as in what time to leave a spot to make it back to weigh-in on time.

Horton is running to the far south side of the lake and then full throttle back up north. Before answering my question Horton wanted to pause and check the weather forecast.

He told me about 30 to 45 minutes would be taken away from his fishing time due to the forecasted winds. He also will not run in a straight line from north to south, instead opting to take the Rim Canal.

The Rim Canal was created during construction of the dike surrounding the lake to protect the surrounding flat land from flooding during hurricanes. During construction of the dike, earth was excavated along the inside perimiter, resulting in a deep channel.

What Horton loses from not running across the lake will be gained back on the smooth, protected water of the Rim Canal.
