Combs has a pair of 4-pounders

Keith Combs has a pair of 4-pounders in his livewell this morning. It would be interesting to know how deep they were caught, based on what Combs said after practice.

“I’ve caught fish as deep as 40 feet and as shallow was six feet, and I’ve caught them in-between,” he noted. “That being said, I don’t feel like there was a concentration at any depth for me.”

The Texas pro is a noted largemouth expert, but Combs loves smallmouth waters as well. He finished 8th last year on the St. Lawrence River with a four-day total of 88-10. Combs was an exception to the norm then, catching many of his fish on crankbaits and jerkbaits.

“You can catch ’em cranking here, and sometimes the average has been a little bit better for me,” he said.
