We’ve watched some incredible gambles pay off and win in this event, like Palaniuk’s pick up stakes and head to Huron on Day 2.
Christie maybe gambling as well. Throwing back 2-pounders doesn’t seem prudent at this time. But he must have a mindset of what it will take and what is good enough and not good enough.
He knows he can’t fall in the standings and give up those precious points he’s gained this week in the AOY. That might make the ordinary man fish a little more reserved or nervous.
Christie ain’t ordinary. He gets on the final day he goes for it. And it’s our guess that the one point he can gain in the AOY is as important as winning.
While typing that he caught a smallmouth close to 2-pounds, immediately released it and cast back out. On that cast he hooked up and landed another 4-pound class fish.
He now (at 9:36) has about 15 pounds in the well with four fish.
