Canterbury: “We can win like this!”

Scott Canterbury is coming off, by far, the worst finish of his brief Elite Series career. The reigning Angler of the Year finished 72nd at Lake St. Clair in August. His previous low was 49th place at Lake Fork last year on the way to that AOY title in his first year on the Elite Series.

And Canterbury wasn’t exactly brimming with confidence this morning, despite weighing the 8th place bag of 16-0 yesterday. He was expecting a tougher day today. But that attitude has changed.

“We can win like this,” exclaimed Canterbury, as he put his third keeper in the boat at 8:05. It was also his biggest of the day, a 3 1/2-pounder. Canterbury is methodically flipping his way through a big area of aquatic vegetation. And the bites have been aggressive.

“He sucked it down when he bit,” said Canterbury, after landing his second bass, a 2 1/2-pounder. “I like that.”
