Canterbury right at home

“I had no idea that I was going to catch them like I did today.”

That’s how Scott Canterbury summed up his Thursday, after weighing 22 pounds, 14 ounces.

The current Toyota Bassmaster Angler of the Year also said he’s quite comfortable with how the fish are setting up in his areas, comparing it to Florida.

“I’m fishing big grass flats, the thickets that I can find,” he said. “The thicker, the better.”

Canterbury found those magic spots by covering water—while fishing and scanning the bottom with his electronics. He did his homework by spending time on the lake during a scouting trip just prior to the cutoff date.
A recent third-place finish on the St. Lawrence River moved Canterbury into first place in the AOY rankings. The Alabamian this season has three appearances in Championship Sunday, with what could be another on the way.

“It’s been an amazing year so far,” said Canterbury. “It’s been the best decision I’ve ever made in my career.”

He continued, “I like the field size, the tournament format and the media power of B.A.S.S. I’m glad I’m here and hope I will be for a long time.”
