Laurie Tisdale, art director for Bassmaster Magazine, is the photographer on our team today as we cover Chris Johnston of Ontario.
Johnson is one of three Canadian anglers who joined the Elite Series this year. His brother Cory leads the Toyota Bassmaster Angler of the Year race at this point in the season, and Chris is fifth.
The third Ontario angler, Jeff Gustafson, is having a good year as well.
Laurie and I followed Chris during the first event of the season, the St. Johns River slugfest. Rick Clunn won that one with almost 100 pounds, and Chris was right behind him in second place.
In just a few months, the Johnston brothers have become threats to win any event they enter. What’s more, the rest of the season includes several stops in their part of the world, including the St. Lawrence River, Cayuga Lake, and Lake St. Clair. This race will be fun to watch.
