Tommy Biffle has managed some afternoon fireworks to put him in solid shape for Sunday’s Top 12 final. His big bass so far – a 5 1/2-pounder – came at 1:47. Ten minutes later Biffle culled a 1-12 with a 3-8 to give him 21-8 for the day and put him in fifth place.
There have been plenty of last-hour heroics in the previous two days of this tournament. You can expect nothing less today. Brandon Lester is the latest example. He landed a 5-pounder at 2:08, facing a 3 o’clock check-in time. It bumped him up to 16-12 today and into second place. Before that 5-pounder, Lester’s limit was as follows: 2-12, 2-8, 3-0, 3-0, 3-0. Another big cull would put Lester back in the lead, where he started the day.
