Bertrand’s game plan

Josh Bertrand, one of my tournament picks to win, shared with me this morning some info that is worth watching for today.

“The biggest challenge for Sunday is adapting to and dealing with fishing pressure,” he explained. “It’s hard to believe that a lake this size is under so much angling pressure, but that is what is happening here.”

The Arizona pro, highly skilled in fishing this type of playing field, explained the catchable smallmouth in either postspawn mode or near the shoreline have been caught.

“Those fish have been hammered all week and don’t replenish in those areas,” he continued. “Even some of the more reliable offshore areas like where I have been fishing are iffy today because those fish have been caught, too.”

Bertrand plans to spend time today searching new water, for the above reasons.

“I’m looking for fish just now showing up in areas, points and postspawn transition areas,” he said. “Roaming fish coming up to a point to feed is what I’m after.”

He added, “If you go out there expecting to catch the same old beat up groups of fish for the last couple days it’ll be really hard, unless of course you are on a mega-school of fish.”
