Brandon Palaniuk is all about doing whatever it takes to achieve his goals.
For this season check one of those off the list. That is qualifying for the 2018 GEICO Bassmaster Classic presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods. Another is coming into sight. Of course that is Toyota Bassmaster Angler of the Year.
Nothing stays the same and especially in bass fishing. Last year the pros were treated to a bronzeback fishing bonanza on Mille Lacs. This year, not as good as 2017.
Fishing pressure from the notoriety delivered by the AOY Championship has taken a toll.
Palaniuk knows how to handle it.
“For me it’s all about taking it one fish at the time, not trying to force things, just remember we are fishing for smallmouth, the most fun fish of them all to catch.”
Palaniuk shared those thoughts with me this morning.
“We are on one of my favorite places to fish, and even if I don’t catch them in the first couple of hours. I have confidence knowing that sometime during the day I’m going to run into them and make it happen.”
Palaniuk was loose as always, prepping his gear and matter-of-factly adding this final comment.
“If I’m having fun it more than likely will happen. If I’m not having fun it’s more than likely that it won’t happen. “
Today had better be all about having fun. That will certainly go a long way in keeping the AOY title in his favor.
