Katsutoshi Furusawa has a deep love for the Big Bud style of baits. He’s collected them and fished with them for years, even enjoying some success with them on B.A.S.S.’s Tournament Trail in the early 2000s. But, since many of them are novelties that are sold to collectors, Furusawa wanted a legitimate tournament-ready fish catching topwater bait. The Big Bud style of baits are topwaters that dive and flash when twitched. Furusawa’s creations, called the Draft Waker, have a different bill, better hooks and a more realistic action. However, they’re still true to their roots with a beer bottle-style body. The following slides showcase some of Furusawa’a creations. Check out a video featuring Furusawa and the Draft Waker’s action here.
Furusawa is serious about his bait and has fine-tuned it. They're so popular, in fact, that they stay sold out in Japanese tackle stores. Even at nearly $30 a piece, the demand is through the roof. The following few slides show some of the various colors available.
