Byron Velvick holds out his hand after hooking himself with a crankbait in the early hours of Day Two of the Elite Series Douglas Lake Challenge.
Velvick showed up at the Marina about an hour after take-off with the bait stuck firmly in his palm.
B.A.S.S. emcee Dave Mercer surveys the damage.
In order to get the hook out, Mercer starts taking the other hooks off the bait and removing the bait from the stuck hook.
Velvick grimaces during the process.
A member of the local water patrol shows up to assist.
Preparations are made to jerk the hook from Velvick’s hand.
A treble comes out and Velvick shows it off.
Velvick gets a bandage.
A new man, Velvick begins to smile.
In order to keep the bandage dry, he starts putting on a rubber glove.
In one of the scariest pictures on the site, Velvick pops the rubber glove in place.
He checks it for fit and heads out to finish Day Two.
